Chasing The American Dream

June 05, 2005

LOST ART FORM?

Previews I've seen on TV lately:

What has happened to TV in this country? Now I admit that I watch Survivor. Guilty. It's the only Prime Time show I watch anymore. And I'm sure there *are* good and entertaining shows out there. ABC's Lost comes to mind. And maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge since I've not seen any of the three shows whose previews I've mentioned. But how far are we going to go with this reality crap? Take Oil Storm. Do we really need to give these M.F.ing terrorists any more bright ideas?

Sorry. Just random thoughts rolling around in my head today.

  • I wouldn't watch Oil Storm because I think it would just freak me out.

  • As far as I'm concerned, the only shows I really watch are: 'Scrubs', 'The Actors Studio', and 'Will and Grace'. I do have a few guilty pleasures, though: 'Sex and the City' and 'Queer Eye', and 'The OC' come to mind. shhh...don't tell anyone.

  • I adore Will & Grace. I also loved that stupid reality tv show that was on a few years ago called "Temptation Island". I liked "Survivor" when it first came out but lost interest. Just be glad you have good tv! I miss American tv now that I live in the UK. YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE THE SHOWS THEY HAVE ON HERE. Absolute rubbish.

  • I've never been a big TV watcher, thank god. But I do love, with a capital "L," Law & Order. It's riveting! If it's not Law & Order, then CNN and ESPN, but that is it. Nothing else interests me. I've never watched Survivor, not even one episode.

  • FX did the same thing with a "made up documentary" about a SmallPox outbreak. I watched part of Oil Storm last night. It wasn't bad. I mean, the whole docu feel. My wife laughed at me: How in feck can you watch a fake documentary?

At that point, I put on the Heat-Pistons game.

  • I think what bothers me is what ABC considers to be "stars." It's disturbing to wonder how a network that can give a thumbs-up to "Lost" also thinks that Melissa Rivers and Trista Rehn are stars. Remember "I'm a Celebrity! Get me outta here!". Yeah, didn't think so.

A MUST ADD to anyone's prime time viewing is Arrested Development. Spend the summer watching the season one DVD and then watching the season two reruns. Until you sufficiently cringe when hearing the words "MotherBoy", you haven't lived.

  • Love Arrested Development.
Caught oil Storm late at night, thought it was a real docu for a few minutes. Proceeded to freak out a little, realized I'd missed CNN by a channel and was actually watching FX. Scary shit.

What's wrong with TV is that people complain about sex and violence and etc on TV, but relly they only want to comaplin. The they go home and watch Will & Grace...about the gay guy....

  • Todd...did you really watch Dancing With the Stars?

By Blogger Lyss, at 2:01 PM, June 08, 2005

  • Yes, yes. The Gay Guy. The Gays...they'll be the downfall of society.

  • Dude, are you NOT watching Chaotic!? Shaa, there's your problem! Now THAT is quality programming. =)

  • Have heard good things about Opie's Arrested Development.

Lyss, no haven't watched Dancing; I just saw a preview on ABC.

    Dazed, Chaotic? WTF is that?

Lyss, LX, yes. Gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

PS everyone, I just saw about 5 minutes of something called The Real Gilligan's Island. I would say it's Survivor with people dressed up in Gilligan attire. Truly awful.

  • As a rule I don't like TV. Will and Grace, Scrubs, and Grey's Anatomy are exceptions.
